The fascinating landscape of the biosphere reserve can be actively explored from the biosphere house on two theme trails - the Biosphere Adventure Trail and the Water Adventure Trail.

Each trail is 2.5km long and leads through striking creek valleys in the Dahn Rockland, providing information about the nature and landscape in the biosphere reserve at hand-on stations along the way. To keep the trail interesting for children, many of these stations offer opportunities for playing, exercise and fun. Since the trails are flat they are well suited for small children and older persons as well.

Only on the Water Adventure Trail some sections will be wet in spring during high water which makes them more difficult to navigate at those times.

  • Water Adventure Trail

Water in its many appearances and functions is shown and explained on the Water Adventure Trail at 14 stations, some of them interactive.

Stroll along the “Sauer”, a border crossing mountain stream, to learn interesting details about the force of the water, its residents, and its significance for humans and nature. In passing you will also learn how a heat pump works, what the “flying gemstones” are all about, and why a fish does not drown in water.

  • Biosphere Adventure Trail

The Biosphere Adventure Trail runs from the biosphere house through the nearby Spießwoog valley to the turning point at the Klosterweiher pond and back. There are 12 stations along the way that invite you to explore the soil, the water and the animals living in this biosphere reserve. You will find hammocks, jumping pits, a snail tower, a water treading basin and much more.

The Biosphere Adventure Trail is wheelchair-friendly.
